Comfort and Air Quality
The system runs. The house still is not right.
This is the hardest category of HVAC problem, because nothing is broken. The equipment turns on, the thermostat is satisfied somewhere in the house, and no part has failed. There is nothing to replace.
Which means there is nothing for a repair call to do. These problems are found by measurement, not by inspection.
Where to start
Pick the one that sounds most like your house:
- Some rooms never get comfortable. See uneven room temperatures.
- The house feels damp, clammy, or sticky. See humidity and moisture.
- The bills are higher than they should be. See high energy bills.
- The same thing keeps breaking. See recurring problems.
If more than one applies, they are probably the same underlying cause. They usually are.
Why these problems persist
Because the visible system is the equipment and the actual system is the whole house. Air has to get from the equipment to the room and back again, and most of what goes wrong happens in between, in the parts nobody looks at because nothing there ever fails.
A duct that was undersized at installation does not break. It just quietly fails to deliver, for twenty years.
How we approach it
We measure the system operating. Airflow, static pressure, temperature change across the coil, conditions at the equipment, and the distribution path. Then we tell you what those numbers explain and what they do not.
The findings come in writing. If something falls outside what the evaluation can determine, we say so and tell you what test would answer it.
Common questions
Common questions
- My last company said the system is fine. Is it?
- Possibly. "Fine" usually means nothing has failed, which is a different question from whether the system is performing. Measurement settles it.
- Can you fix this without replacing my system?
- Often. Most of these complaints are distribution and airflow problems, and the equipment is not the thing at fault.
- What if the answer is replacement?
- Then you will have the measurements that justify it rather than a salesperson's opinion, and you can take them anywhere.
